When fitting the charging regulator (controller) is it best to have it near to the solar panel, near to the battery or does it not matter?
As far as I can see there is no great advantage in having loads run directly from the controller as it will only be these loads that are switched off when the battery is low. Also running loads directly from the controller usually means that a larger amp controller is needed.
Have I got it right?

How would that work arh? are all MH engine and leisure batteries connected in some way, I do have the wiring diagram (see below) not too good following these damn things, I wish it was colour coded.
Oldun, my panel is about 1.5 metres from the panel, and controller is 20amp, panel is about 5amp.

We have just had a solar panel fitted to our Laika and they have fitted the controller near to the leisure battery, in fact it is behind the passenger seat (LHD) mounted onto the side of the kitchen unit.
I think arh is plain wrong. However it is possible to connect a regulator up in the way he is implying
If you look at earlier posts from me I explained quite clearly what to do if you want the load part of your regulator to work, Connect some loads to it!
If you don't want to do it thats also fine.

Thanks Frank, Isn't it strange how things change, when you first posted that diagram in the link, it went straight over my head, now it makes so much more sense, as I'm a little further into the project.
I have yet to put anything onto the load terminal, I'll use it for anything new that could be powered down without causing a problem, I might even put the light, all except one for emergencies through it, once I suss out, the wiring for them, although we do have a couple of those round stick on LED lights in strategic places so the main light switch can be turned off overnight.
Did you have any suggestions as to the best set-up for the controller, you may have missed it, as I posted it while you were away

Your work on Solar Panels (above post and others) should be in the official FAQ section I think, so it's easy to find.
Would you fancy writing it up as a single guide and sending it to me via PM (to save cluttering up the thread) and I'll add it in.
I'm sure a lot of members would find it most useful.
