What not to wear when driving

Well I did once reverse into a friends brand new car, she'd come to visit one evening and I was going to work. We lived in a largish house with a biggish drive, and well there was NEVER anything in my way; I probably wasn't even looking. 20 years ago now.

My only excuse is that I was wearing proper leather shoes and a suit; so that's alright then!

Actually the moment summer comes and I'm away I almost always drive bare footed. Would regard flip flops as very dangerous but don't see bare feet being dangerous, great "feel".

Drove the Hymer all the way to Spain and back that way, deck shoes ready nearby in case a dismount is required. There's a man in Malvern who walks about barefooted summer and winter, wish I could toughen up that way; hate shoes.

Hi Stanner,
I guess both would be useful but at the moment am trying to get my head round the hot water system, I think it may be air locked. Also does the domestic battery charge from the engine (alternator) or only when on hook up.

Autoglym motorhome cleaner, a ladder and a bit of graft. Just done mine after out annual fortnight in Scotland and it wasn't such a bad job to be honest. By the way, I throw a blanket over the ladder to protect the pod area on ours, and have the ladder more upright than i normally would to take the pressure off the said area, if that makes sense.

Handling Emails when away from home with a laptop

I think Yahoo run the BT email system now, so you should be able to access via Yahoo or BT using your browser rather than an email client.

If your laptop is new and you want to use email software, you wont find Outlook Express on it (MS Stopped supporting a few years ago) but you should find Windows Live Mail that replaced it.

Some other operators farm their email out, such as Sky do with GMail,

Another option of course is to have your emails "pushed" through to a mobile phone.

Hi Sue and Brian, and a welcome from me too

[quote:3be6c937d4="BMR"]so towing the boat and camping near the sea wont be a problem.[/quote:3be6c937d4]
Hmm. The "camping near the sea" bit? Could be tricky, as more of our seaside destinations get increasingly uptight about motorhomes and wild camping.

[quote:3be6c937d4="BMR"]As we get some pictures of the rebuild I will post them up so you can see what we are up to.[/quote:3be6c937d4]
I'm sure many of us would love to see them.

I parked across the caravan bay outside main doors 10 days ago,
on our way back from france.
I parked from 11pm to 10am and had a a good night sleep before the 3hr drive home, but thought it was free as it says early arrival area on motorway sign so we thought it was a eurotunnel parking area as the one in calais is and didn't notice charges mentioned anywhere obvious.

Leisure battery charging and 240v

Hi Kenski, and welcome to the forum.

Sorry you've been having some problems. Have a look through the guides some of the members on here have created:

http://www.motorhomefacts.com/forum-185.html

There might be something on there.

Cooking batteries? Possibly, but a good charger and battery combination should stop this happening. Which charger does your van have? What make and type of battery is it?

As for 240V only working when the charger is switched on? That sounds very strange, and I would suggest you get to a motorhome dealer or service agent and get them to check it out. Are you sure it's the charger you're switching on?

[quote:da84ad9edd="stewartwebr"]we settled for the large square shower tray in the back of the van[/quote:da84ad9edd]
That had occurred to me. I remember someone (maybe you?) posting this idea before.

Tess isn't that bothered about being under something. She sometimes clunks down in the kitchen area as it's about the biggest piece of floor area in the van.
